Loss wax casting is a complex set of processes which is highly determined and influenced by numerous physical, metallurgical and chemical factors. Improper handling of every individual step may end up in a very unforgiving result.
Porosity is the commonest defects in loss wax casting. In fact, many factors can result porosity problems. According to the different appearance of the pores, the porosity problems can be classified as follows:

Hard Spot usually cannot be observed until the final polishing stage. So, it will be a waste of labor if the cast does have this problem.
The occurrence of hard spot problem is due to the presence of some substances, which have a higher hardness than the bulk metals near the surface.
Comparing to the casting defects, cast with hard-spot problems is very difficult to repair. These substances can be foreign particles or it can be already present in the metal.
Following are the common sources of the hard spot problems:

Rough surface is another very common defects in loss wax casting. The rough surface often require an extensive polishing but the rough surface is not necessarily to be completely removed.
The rough surface can be caused by many factors but usually it is not so directly related to the quality of the alloys.
Some common rough surface problems are listed as follows:

Cracking is another very common defect in jewelry casting.
The cracking problem can be very serious since it is not only affecting the appearance of the cast but it can destroy the jewelry items.
The cracking problems can be due to many reasons and they are summarized as following:
