Heraeus Precious Metals is expanding its HeraSelect® portfolio of carbon-supported precious metal catalysts. By integrating the Ravindra Heraeus production site in Visakhapatnam, India, the company has broadened its range of powder catalysts. At the same time, Heraeus Precious Metals is adding shaped carbon-supported catalysts to its portfolio.
The manufacturing network, comprising the Hanau (Germany), Udaipur and Visakhapatnam (both India) sites, expands production capacity and strengthens supply chain resilience. This enables Heraeus Precious Metals to flexibly and reliably meet customer demands across different regions and production volumes.

The Right Catalyst for Each Process
Carbon-supported palladium, platinum, and ruthenium catalysts are used in various hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis processes, among others, in the pharmaceutical, fine chemical and agrochemical industries. Even catalysts with the same specified precious metal loading can differ significantly in terms of activity, selectivity and lifetime. Beyond precious metal loading, key factors include the properties of the carbon support, the choice of precious metal precursor, metal distribution, synthesis method and the catalyst’s physical properties.
By combining expertise in support material selection, precursor chemistry, and catalyst synthesis, Heraeus Precious Metals supports customers in selecting the most suitable catalyst from its broad portfolio to achieve optimal reaction results.
Shaped Catalysts for Continuous Processes
As the chemical and pharmaceutical industries explore more continuously operated processes, catalyst requirements evolve alongside these new process designs. Shaped carbon-supported catalysts offer additional options for continuous reactor setups.
The new shaped catalysts complement the existing HeraSelect® portfolio with extrudates, granules, and customized carbon-based geometries. This expansion positions Heraeus Precious Metals to support customers evaluating continuous-processing applications.
In addition to its existing product portfolio, Heraeus Precious Metals offers custom catalyst development tailored to the specific process conditions right from the start.
